Web Copywriter (Freelance)

Role & Responsibilities

We're looking for a skilled web copywriter to craft sharp, compelling copy for the digital presences of deep tech startups. You'll work closely with the HAUS creative team to translate complex, frontier technologies into clear, confident language that resonates with investors, customers, and media alike.

This role begins as a contract engagement with a clear path to full-time for the right candidate.

  • Write and edit website copy for early-stage and growth-stage deep tech clients, including homepages, about pages, product pages, and investor-facing content
  • Develop messaging frameworks, taglines, and brand voice guidelines in collaboration with the creative team
  • Translate highly technical subject matter — AI, aerospace, biotech, quantum, defense, and more — into accessible, compelling narratives without sacrificing accuracy
  • Use provided interviews from founders and subject-matter experts to extract positioning insights and authentic brand stories
  • Collaborate with designers on layout copy, CTAs, and visual-verbal cohesion across web builds
  • Iterate quickly based on internal feedback, maintaining quality under tight timelines
  • Contribute to SEO strategies by writing keyword-informed copy that reads naturally and performs technically
  • Maintain consistent brand voice across multiple simultaneous client accounts

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of copywriting experience with a strong portfolio of web copy across B2B or technology brands
  • Demonstrable ability to simplify complex technical concepts without dumbing them down
  • Excellent command of English with rigorous attention to voice, tone, clarity, and structure
  • Comfortable managing copy across multiple accounts simultaneously under competing deadlines
  • Experience collaborating with designers and creative directors
  • Strong self-direction — you take briefs and run, asking the right questions upfront
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and how they intersect with editorial quality
  • Ability to adapt voice and style to fit different startup personalities and audiences

Preferences

  • Background or demonstrated interest in science, engineering, or emerging technology
  • Experience writing for startups at the Seed, Series A, or Series B stage
  • Familiarity with the venture capital ecosystem and how founders communicate with investors
  • Experience working within an integrated creative agency environment
  • Exposure to UX writing or product copy alongside brand and marketing copy
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated experience
