Video Editor (Contract)
Role & Responsibilities
HAUS is seeking an experienced freelance Video Editor. The ideal person will be responsible for the following:
- Edit Hero Videos and Brand Content: Assemble finished videos from 3D animation renders, motion graphics, voice over, music, sound design, and live-action footage. Your edits translate creative direction and approved storyboards into finished pieces across hero brand videos, product explainers, launch content, investor deck centerpieces, and social content. You own the piece from first assembly through final delivery.
- Cut to Voice Over, Music, and Sound Design: Edit against voice over scripts, licensed or custom music, and sound design to build pieces that feel rhythmic, intentional, and paced. You understand how audio drives visual pacing, when to cut on the beat and when to cut against it, and how to make a finished piece land more strongly than the sum of its individual elements.
- Color Grade and Finish: Apply color grades that unify 3D renders, motion graphics, and any live-action content into a cohesive look aligned with client brand identity. Deliver polished finishes with clean audio mixes, level-corrected tracks, proper codec exports, and QC'd deliverables ready for the platforms they'll appear on.
- Multi-Format and Multi-Platform Delivery: Deliver every piece across the formats and lengths its life demands: 60-second hero video for the website, 30-second cutdown for the investor deck, 15-second social versions for LinkedIn, X, and Instagram, plus aspect-ratio-specific vertical and square cuts. You know when to reframe versus re-cut and how to preserve a piece's rhythm across formats.
- Manage Source Assembly and Project Hygiene: Wrangle project files, media, versions, and review rounds across multi-week engagements with multiple stakeholders. Keep projects organized, media managed, and version control clean so revisions don't create the mess most edits eventually turn into. Coordinate render deliveries from the 3D and motion teams so your timeline stays current with the latest approved work.
- Collaborate with Directors, Motion Designers, and 3D Team: Work closely with art directors, creative directors, 3D animators, and motion designers throughout production. Flag your needs early so animation and motion teams can deliver render passes in the format and structure your edit requires, and push back with editorial reasoning when a proposed shot or transition doesn't serve the cut.
Requirements
- Passion for Deep Tech: You must love deep tech and be genuinely excited by cutting-edge technologies.
- Portfolio & Experience: Professional experience editing for commercial, brand, agency, or motion-heavy production work. Your reel must demonstrate editorial sense in short-form pieces (30 seconds to 3 minutes) with strong music and voice over integration. Wedding, event, YouTube-style rapid-cut, or long-form documentary reels are not the right fit.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve (or an equivalent industry-standard package). Comfort with codecs, color spaces, render pipelines, and delivery formats across broadcast, web, and social platforms. Familiarity with proxy workflows for heavy 3D source material.
- Editorial Sense: Strong instinct for pacing, rhythm, and how a piece breathes. You know when to hold a shot and when to cut, when a piece needs more space and when it needs to move, and how to build tension and payoff through timing rather than effects. You cut with intention at every frame.
- Color Grading: Working proficiency in color grading, ideally in DaVinci Resolve. You don't need to be a dedicated colorist, but you can grade a piece to look polished and unified, match shots and elements across scenes, and know when to bring in a dedicated colorist for higher-end work.
- Audio Editing and Mixing: Working proficiency in audio for edit, including dialogue and VO leveling, music integration, and basic mix balance. You can deliver a piece that sounds broadcast-clean out of your edit, and you know when to bring in a dedicated sound designer or mix engineer for higher-end work.
- Working with 3D and Motion Content: Comfort working with 3D animation renders as source material, including image sequences, alpha channels, render passes, and coordination with animators on delivery format. You understand the practical realities of a render pipeline and structure your project to accommodate late-arriving or revised renders without breaking the edit.
- Multi-Format Delivery Expertise: Experience delivering across broadcast, web, and social formats. You understand aspect ratios, safe areas, platform-specific specs (LinkedIn video, X video, Instagram Reels and feed, YouTube), and the reframe-versus-recut decisions each format requires.
- Project Management and Hygiene: Excellent file organization, media management, and version control. You can hand off a project to another editor at any point and have them find their way through it without a guided tour. Projects that grow over multi-week engagements stay organized under your ownership.
- Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills. You can talk to directors about pacing and story, to 3D animators about render deliverables, to motion designers about integration, and to clients about what your cuts represent versus what's still open for revision. Since our team is distributed, you need to be comfortable working remotely, collaborating via Slack and Zoom, and proactively communicating status and blockers.
- Tech Savvy & Curiosity: A genuine passion for technology and innovation is important. Our clients are building world-changing tech in AI, robotics, biotech, aerospace, and more. Your enthusiasm for these domains will help you cut pieces that communicate their technologies with the clarity and weight they deserve.
- Bonus Skills: Working proficiency in After Effects for editorial motion and finishing is a plus. Familiarity with sound design tools (Pro Tools, Adobe Audition), higher-end color work in Resolve, or basic compositing and VFX cleanup will help your work stand out. Any prior work in aerospace, defense, robotics, semiconductors, medical devices, or industrial visualization will help you understand our clients faster.
