Social Media Director
Role & Responsibilities
HAUS is seeking a Social Media Director to lead our social media practice as we scale our work with the world's most consequential deep tech companies. This is a senior role for a builder: someone who can set strategic direction across our client portfolio, mentor a growing team, and shape how deep tech founders, executives, and companies show up online.
You'll be the most senior social voice in the room advising CEOs and founders on how to build influence, guiding narrative decisions primarily across LinkedIn and X/Twitter, but also helping lead expansion into YouTube, Reddit, Substack, and emerging channels, and setting the editorial standard for platform-native content that moves conversations. You'll also help shape our practice itself: how we pitch, scope, staff, and deliver social work across the agency.
You'll partner closely with our PR, content, design, and executive leadership teams and report into agency leadership. The ideal candidate combines the strategic instincts of a senior strategist, the editorial judgment of a great editor, the platform fluency of a native power user, and the calm, decisive presence of someone who's led teams through high-stakes moments.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Practice Leadership
- Own HAUS's social media practice: its strategy, standards, service offering, and reputation.
- Define playbooks, frameworks, and workflows for social strategy, executive positioning, content development, listening, and reporting.
- Shape how we price, scope, and staff social work across account types and client stages.
- Represent the practice internally and externally through speaking, writing, and industry participation.
- Stay ahead of platform shifts, algorithm changes, and emerging behaviors and translate them into agency-wide POVs.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of social media managers, leads, and coordinators
- Set editorial standards, review key work, and coach the team through complex assignments.
- Lead hiring, onboarding, and career development for the social team.
- Foster a culture of curiosity, sharp writing, and craft excellence.
Client Strategy & Executive Advisory
- Serve as the senior social strategist across our most important accounts.
- Advise founders, CEOs, and technical executives on how to build presence, credibility, and influence on social platforms.
- Develop long-term social strategies tied to client business goals: funding milestones, product launches, hiring, policy work, category creation.
- Guide clients through high-visibility moments including launches, media cycles, crises, and executive positioning shifts.
- Set the standard for what "great" looks like across content, engagement, and community for each client.
Editorial Direction & Content Oversight
- Set editorial direction for company pages and founder/executive accounts across the portfolio.
- Write and edit the highest-stakes content: founder posts, launch narratives, sensitive-topic responses.
- Review and elevate the team's writing, ensuring consistent voice, tone, and platform craft.
- Translate complex technical topics such as AI, aerospace, biotech, defense, energy, quantum, robotics, and semiconductors into narratives that build conviction and community.
Creative, Multimedia & Production
- Direct creative approach across social assets: graphics, carousels, PDFs, short-form video, and interactive formats.
- Partner with our design and video teams to develop distinct, platform-native visual systems for each client.
- Champion social-first video as a growing part of the offering, from hook development to editing standards to publishing workflows.
Social Listening, Community & Insights
- Set the listening and community strategy across accounts and lead our approach to identifying signal in noisy platforms.
- Guide the team's monitoring of brand, competitor, industry, and community conversations across LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Reddit, Discord, Substack, and emerging spaces.
- Turn listening into strategic recommendations for content, PR, product, and executive positioning.
Analytics, Reporting & Business Impact
- Own the standard for how we measure and report on social across the agency.
- Ensure reporting tells a clear story: what worked, why, and what to do next rather than surfacing vanity metrics.
- Tie social performance to client business outcomes and use insights to inform pitches, retention, and account growth.
New Business & Agency Growth
- Contribute to new business pitches, proposals, and scoping for social-led and social-inclusive engagements.
- Help develop thought leadership that positions HAUS as the leading agency for deep tech social.
- Identify service expansion opportunities such as creator programs, community builds, video production, executive coaching.
Client Partnership & Crisis
- Serve as a senior point of contact and trusted advisor to client leadership.
- Lead response strategy for sensitive moments, high-visibility events, and reputational risk.
- Manage escalations with judgment, discretion, and calm.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in social media, digital communications, or PR with meaningful time spent in agency, in-house at a fast-growing tech company, or a combination.
- Direct experience managing and mentoring social media teams.
- Elite writing and editing; you're the person others send their post to before it goes live.
- Proven track record of building executive and founder presence on social, especially LinkedIn and X/Twitter.
- Deep platform fluency across LinkedIn, X/Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, and Substack, with a strong POV on where each fits into a modern B2B or founder strategy.
- Fluency with social listening and analytics tools (Meltwater, Sprout, Brandwatch, or equivalents) and comfort building the reporting narratives that come from them.
- Ability to translate complex or technical topics into content that lands with both insider and adjacent audiences.
- Sound judgment on sensitive topics, crisis moments, and reputation questions.
- Basic design literacy and comfort with Canva and similar tools.
- Self-starter comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-paced agency environment.
- Must love deep tech.
Preferences
- Experience working with founders, CEOs, or highly technical executives as your primary clients.
- X/Twitter-native experience: you understand the platform's culture, how virality works, and how founders build there.
- Familiarity with AI, aerospace, defense, biotech, climate, energy, semiconductor, quantum, or robotics ecosystems.
- Experience with B2B creator/influencer programs.
- Experience building or advising communities on Reddit, Discord, or niche forums.
- Experience with social-first video: editing, hooks, packaging, and shipping.
- Experience contributing to or leading new business pitches.
