Jr. Brand/Graphic Designer (Freelance)

Role & Responsibilities

HAUS is seeking an experienced freelance Junior Brand Designer. The ideal person will be responsible for the following:

  • Design Across Digital & Print: Create visually engaging, on-brand graphics and layouts across multiple media including; marketing websites, social media graphics, email campaigns, and print collateral for deep tech startups. Ensure every design aligns with the client's brand and effectively communicates complex tech concepts in a clear, compelling way.
  • Branding & Visual Identity: Develop and refine cohesive visual identity systems for clients under senior guidance. This includes designing logos, typography sets, color palettes, and layout templates, then compiling them into comprehensive brand guidelines and asset libraries that ensure consistency across all materials. Essentially, you'll help define the startup's unique graphic language and maintain it across projects.
  • Presentations & Pitch Decks: Design high-impact presentations and pitch decks for sales meetings, investor updates, webinars, and partnership pitches. Translate complex technical ideas into clean, understandable visuals and infographics. Emphasize clarity, strong typography, and logical flow so that even the most advanced concepts are easily grasped by audiences.
  • Collaboration & Iteration: Work closely with senior designers, copywriters, strategists, and developers to iterate on concepts from initial brief to final delivery. You will bring creative visions to life by incorporating feedback, refining designs, and adapting to project needs. In our fast-paced sprints, you'll collaborate with the team to produce high-quality results on tight timelines.
  • Production & Quality Control: Prepare and finalize design files with precision, whether for web development handoff or print production. This includes exporting assets, organizing layers, and providing specifications for developers or printers. Conduct thorough quality checks on all work (e.g. proofing typography, verifying image resolution and colors) to ensure files are error-free and ready for production.
  • Brand Consistency & Asset Management: Act as a guardian of the brand identity for each client. Maintain design systems and reusable components in Figma, and create template assets (like social post formats, icon sets, presentation slide masters, etc.) to ensure a consistent visual language across all touchpoints. You'll help manage the use of logos, fonts, and styles so that everything from a banner ad to a social media post feels recognizable and on-brand.

Requirements

  • Passion for Deep Tech: You must love deep tech and be genuinely excited by cutting-edge technologies.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field. 2-3 years of design experience in an agency or in-house setting. We welcome strong internship experience and portfolio work, what matters most is your demonstrated skill and passion.
  • Design Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator and Photoshop) is required. Experience building prototypes or working with design systems in Figma is a plus. Familiarity with Adobe InDesign for layout or print projects is helpful. Motion experience with Adobe After Effects is a plus.
  • Typography & Layout Excellence: Must have exceptional typographic skills and a keen eye for detail in layouts. You understand hierarchy, white space, and typesetting nuances, and you can design content that is both visually striking and highly legible. (We'll look for evidence of strong layout, color, and typography work in your portfolio)
  • Branding Knowledge: Solid understanding of branding and visual identity fundamentals. Experience developing or working with brand guidelines and applying them consistently across digital and print media is expected. You should be able to adapt your style to fit different brand aesthetics while maintaining coherence.
  • Digital & Web Design Skills: Comfortable designing for digital platforms. From responsive web layouts to social media graphics. Basic knowledge of web design principles (responsive grids, web typography, asset optimization) and awareness of front-end constraints will help. Prior exposure to web builders (e.g. Webflow & Framer) or HTML/CSS understanding is a bonus but not required.
  • Attention to Detail & Organization: Highly organized and able to manage multiple design projects at once without sacrificing quality. You can juggle deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a high level of attention to detail on each deliverable. Strong file management and version control habits are essential.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills - you can clearly articulate design decisions and are receptive to feedback. Since our team is distributed, you need to be comfortable working in a remote environment, collaborating via Slack/Zoom, and proactively communicating status updates. Being a team player is crucial; we value positive attitudes and the ability to work constructively with colleagues across time zones.
  • Tech Savvy & Curiosity: A genuine passion for technology and innovation is important. Our clients are building world-changing tech, so an eagerness to understand subjects like AI, robotics, biotech, aerospace, etc., will help you create more informed and inspired designs. Curiosity and willingness to continually learn (about new design tools as well as new scientific domains) will set you up for success.
  • Bonus Skills: Motion design capabilities are a big plus. For example, basic knowledge of Adobe After Effects to create simple animations or animated GIFs. Any experience with 3D elements (Cinema 4D, Blender) is welcome but not required. Overall, an "extra gear" in areas like illustration, animation, or interactive design will help your work stand out (we love multi-talented creatives!).
