Content Strategist (Contract)
Role & Responsibilities
We're looking for a content strategist who knows how to write. Someone who shapes editorial direction and then executes on the direction. You'll develop sharp, substantive long-form content for deep tech startups, working closely with the HAUS marketing and PR teams to establish our clients as authoritative voices in their fields, reaching investors, customers, policymakers, and media alike.
- Write and edit a range of long-form content for early-stage and growth-stage deep tech clients, including blog posts, case studies, whitepapers, op-eds, executive bylines, and bylined commentary
- Develop content strategies and editorial calendars aligned with client business goals, news cycles, and audience priorities
- Translate highly technical subject matter — AI, aerospace, biotech, quantum, defense, and more — into rigorous, authoritative narratives that respect reader intelligence
- Conduct and synthesize interviews with founders, scientists, and subject-matter experts to surface original insights and shape distinctive points of view
- Collaborate with PR, creative, and account teams to align editorial output with broader communications strategy and pitch opportunities
- Pitch and shape op-eds and bylined pieces for placement in trade and mainstream publications
- Iterate quickly based on internal and client feedback, maintaining quality under tight timelines
- Maintain consistent voice and editorial standards across multiple simultaneous client accounts
- Use AI tools thoughtfully where they accelerate good work (e.g., research synthesis and structural drafting) while owning every word that goes out the door. We have zero tolerance for AI slop.
Requirements
- 3–6 years of writing experience with a strong portfolio spanning multiple long-form formats (especially blog posts, case studies, whitepapers, and op-eds) for B2B technology startups
- Demonstrable ability to develop a point of view, not just summarize information
- Strong editorial judgment; you know what makes a piece worth publishing and what doesn't
- Excellent command of English with rigorous attention to voice, tone, clarity, and structure
- A discerning eye for AI slop and the discipline to never let it ship under your name
- Comfortable managing editorial work across multiple accounts simultaneously under competing deadlines
- Skilled at interviewing founders and technical experts to extract substantive material
- Strong self-direction: you take briefs and run, asking the right questions upfront
- Ability to adapt voice and style to fit different startup personalities and audiences
Preferences
- Background or demonstrated interest in science, engineering, or emerging technology
- Bylines in respected trade or mainstream publications
- Experience writing for B2B technology startups at the Seed, Series A, or Series B stage
- Familiarity with the venture capital ecosystem and how founders communicate with investors
- Experience working within an integrated creative or communications agency environment
- Familiarity with how earned media, content, and thought leadership work together
- A clear philosophy on where AI belongs in editorial workflows and where it doesn't
- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
